In accordance to the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness
Response Act, signed by President George Bush on 2002, the Department
of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) have released interim final rules for Select Agents and Toxins
on December 13, 2002. The rules which became effective on February
7, 2003, established new requirements for registration of possession,
use, and transfer of Select Agents and Toxins that could pose a
threat to human, animal, and plant safety and health. These new
regulations will greatly impact anyone at USU planning on working
with a select agent or toxin.
The EH&S office can help you to work safely and within these
new regulations. Please contact our office if you plan to work with
select agents or toxins.
